Budgeree Hall – Dec. 2019

The Budgeree Hall has been a hive of activity over the past few months with the hall being in use most weekends.  We have had two beautiful weddings and been the focus of

Beautiful interior setting for a wedding.

Bushfire Recovery activities.

The communities of Budgeree, Yinnar South and Jumbuk have been treated to a number of community building fun events sponsored by the Community Recovery Committee and Latrobe City Council.  These have included a Zumba morning, with 27 fit and not so fit women coming along to dance and jig the morning away followed by a wonderful egg and bacon breakfast supplied by Café 3869 in Yinnar and coffee from the Love Gippsland coffee van.  Two days of Yoga, facilitated by Boolarra resident Kristy Mills.  The two days were both filled with 16 people enjoying relaxation and restorative activities.  The making of cocodarma’s was also a highlight.  Catering once again in abundance from Café 3869.

Cocodarmas a highlight of Yoga.

The Mind Your Mates lunch held at Yinnar Community Hotel and facilitated by Lifeline Gippsland was a huge success with seventy-one locals, many from Budgeree, coming along to enjoy a lunch, win raffle prizes, chat, laugh and learn the vital skills of knowing what to do if someone you know is struggling.

With the recent bushfires in our mind the Budgeree Hall Reserve Committee has been focussed on ways to protect the hall building from future bushfire events. Budgeree is a high wildfire area.   With all the recent renovations the hall is a vibrant modern public space and we would hate to lose all our hard work.  The Committee was one of the successful applicants in the Mirboo North Community Bank grants for funds to replace the lower rotten weatherboards around the bottom of the building with cement sheeting to reduce the chance of embers gathering and setting the building on fire.  The grant also included funds to replace the veranda at the rear of the building, outside the kitchen, to stop the leaves and embers blowing in.

Twenty seven take part in Zumba class.

The committee was also successful in acquiring a grant from the Mirboo North Community Foundation to place a dedicated 18,000 litre metal tank for building protection on site.  The tank be fitted with only a CFA fitting for asset protection.     We would like to thank both the Mirboo North Community Bank and the Mirboo North Community Foundation for their wonderful support.

Over the summer months we have a number of events and activities coming up with five weddings booked and of course the annual Budgeree Christmas Tree on December 6. To see what’s happening follow us on the Budgeree Hall Facebook page.

If you would like to visit the hall to see how we can host your next event, please contact our secretary on 0429 111 192.
