Our application for a grant through the Department of Health and Human Services to install solar panels on the roof of the Shed has been successful. The relevant state department will be in touch to walk us through bringing this project to finality, hopefully, in the New Year.
As mentioned in the last two editions of the Link we have been approached by a number of ladies in our community asking if we could run courses on such topics as the correct use of hand tools, welding etc. and even projects to make items for their house or for their yard. So far no approaches. So here we go again, in an effort to gauge the demand for such courses it is suggested that any interested individuals (male or female) give the writer a call on 5169 6286 to discuss their area/s of interest.
We have made two x one metre high petrol bowsers and a small garden fence for the Boolarra Play Group. We have also written to the Latrobe Shire about maintenance of the benches and seating in Railway Park as well as the cubby house and other items in the Park. Recently we installed a garage rear entry new solid core door with a cat flap for a lady in town.
As reported previously members of the Shed have engaged in the restoration of household furniture, which has been very well received by happy customers. If you have any items that you would like to have restored please visit us and discuss what we can do for you. Our prices are reasonable and competitive.
Our hard wood, timber slatted park benches with cast iron ends are continuing to sell like hot cakes so if you are in the market get in quick before you miss out. We do have some in stock and they are an absolute bargain at only $200 each. Also available are custom made coffins for humans, cats and dogs. We also have rough sawn pine slabs $60.00 each and 200mm x 75mm pine sleepers $20.00 each for sale at the Shed.
Monthly BBQs/luncheons at the Shed are continuing to be very well attended, so if you would like to come along and meet us, they are held on the last Monday each month at around 12 noon.
To the males in the Boolarra and district community who have not experienced the camaraderie of the Boolarra Men’s Shed, why don’t you come along on any Monday or Wednesday from 10am to 4pm and have a chat and a cuppa or a soft drink. You might be pleasantly surprised what the Shed and its members hold in store for you.
On Saturday 7 December 2019 we had our Christmas break up dinner at the Yinnar Hotel. What a pity this couldn’t be arranged at our own pub.
One day the first grade teacher was reading the story of Chicken Little to her class. She came to the part of the story where Chicken Little tried to warn the farmer. She read, ‘…. and so Chicken Little
went up to the farmer and said, ‘The sky is falling, the sky is falling!’
The teacher paused then asked the class, ‘And what do you think that farmer said?’
One little girl raised her hand and said, ‘I think he said:
‘Holy Hell! A talking chicken!”
The teacher was unable to teach for the next 10 minutes.
We at the Boolarra Men’s Shed wish you all a merry Christmas and a happy, prosperous and safe new year.
