The Yinnar Primary School has approached us to make various activity projects, in conjunction with the kids, for placement in their school grounds. I will report more on this as it develops.
Our AGM was held on 24 June 2019 and the new committee is as follows:
- President – Michael L Watt
- Vice President – Joseph Schutte
- Secretary/Treasurer – Doug Black
- Other committee members – Lawrie Havrillay, Malcolm Thompson, John Henry and Alex Stevenson.
We thank the previous committee for all their hard work and dedication to the Shed and the community.
We received bad news that our oldest member, Bob Copland, passed away in late August 2019 and was buried at the Mirboo North Cemetery on 29 August 2019. Eight of us attended his funeral. Bob was quite a character and kept us amused and entertained during his time with us at the Shed. Vale Bob.
We are currently applying for a grant through the Department of Health and Human Services to install solar panels on the roof of the Shed. Kellie Bertrand, from the Department, and Denise Schiller have been extremely helpful in preparing the grant submission, thank you ladies. We have also had great support from Colin Brick, the Boolarra Quilting Group, the Boolarra South Landcare Group, The Boolarra Wool Group, Darren Chester’s Office and Russell Northe’s Office.
We have been approached by a number of ladies in our community asking if we could run courses on such topics as the correct use of hand tools etc. and even projects to make items for their house or for their yard. In an effort to gauge the demand for such courses it is suggested that any interested individuals (male or female) give the writer a call on 51696 286 to discuss their areas of interest.
As reported previously members of the Shed have engaged in the restoration of household furniture, which has been very well received by happy customers. If you have any items that you would like to have restored, please visit us and discuss what we can do for you. Our prices are reasonable and competitive.
Our hard wood, timber slatted park benches with cast iron ends are continuing to sell like hot cakes so if you are in the market get in quick before you miss out. We do have some in stock and they are an absolute bargain at only $200 each. Also available are custom made coffins for humans, cats and dogs. We also have rough sawn pine slabs ($60 each) and 200mm x 75mm pine sleepers ($20 each) for sale at the Shed.
Monthly BBQs/luncheons at the Shed are continuing to be very well attended, so if you would like to come along and meet us, they are held on the last Monday each month at around 12 noon.
To the males in the Boolarra and district community who have not experienced the camaraderie of the Boolarra Men’s Shed, why don’t you come along on any Monday or Wednesday from 10am to 4pm and have a chat and a cuppa or a soft drink. You might be pleasantly surprised what the Shed and its members hold in store for you.
