l create for the future. Ms Jan Tulloch spoke about the partnership between the Centre for Creativity and Contemporary Arts (ARC) and the Community Garden, and how the sustainable gardening workshops have added flavour to ARC and how the Vision of the community garden helps sustain the role of ARC as a great community resource to be shared by the broader community.

A Garden Sign with the plan of the Garden was then presented to Sari Anderson (Garden Committee Member) & John Harris (Yinnar and District Community Association) and an engraved spade presented to Rosemary Abetz-Rouse (Committee Member and one of the Founders of the Garden) and John Harris. Funnily the ‘Turning of the Sod’ by Dr Phillip Moors revealed half a brick. The joys of building a garden at the back of what was an old butter factory and the Yinnar Rail Line. Luckily the garden plan includes raised vegie beds and hardy bushtucker plants and there are softer areas to plant in!

Participants from the FREE sustainable garden workshop on Composting & Worm Farming then mingled with the distinguished guests and the Garden Committee and were refreshed by delicious country fare prepared by Sue Webster. A special thanks to all the guests from Green Villa, Yinnar, Boolarra & the wider district who made this such a happy community event.

The next FREE garden workshop is on “ Backyard Biodiversity ” and will be presented on Sunday  December 4th  by Kevin Roberts, Sustainability Advisor, Latrobe City..
