Boolarra Football/Netball Club – Dec. 2011

Well it’s that time of the year again where it’s time for our footballers and netballers to start hitting the pavement and get a bit of run into the legs. After their first flag since the fairytale of 1997 the senior team look set for a big pre-season with a lot of hunger in the playing group for further success. Behind the scenes the coaching staff hasn’t really stopped since grand final day and have been busy in player recruitment and coming up with a master game plan to give the boys the best chance to go back-to-back in 2012. Senior training has been in full swing since the 30th of November with the boys being put through their paces Wednesday and Friday nights.

The reserves team who were flag favourites in 2011 but fell over at the 2nd last hurdle are looking for more improvement in the coming season. Many of the players are already looking fit and should be in fine form for next year. The boys have a lot of unfinished business and are driven by the hurt of their early finals exit last year.

As always we are searching for more junior players to join the ranks of our talented young demon footballers. This coming season the club will field an under 18 side with the majority of the 4ths from last year taking the step up to play 3rds. The team will boast an impressive list of future senior stars and will be looking to play finals after finishing runners up last season.

The netballers are looking set to improve out of sight again and are setting their sights on getting a couple of senior teams in the finals next season. The D grade girls are especially hungry after tasting finals action last year. Many of the netballers have been playing mixed netball down at the local courts on Tuesday nights at the club’s twilight netball competition. The girls have been showing the senior footballers in the competition how to play the game and many of the girls have been looking impressive and holding their own against their much taller football counterparts. We all look forward to the netballers going from strength to strength over the pre-season and into 2012.

Overall it looks like being another big season for the club in 2012 as the senior football team launch their premiership defence and all other teams endeavour to play finals and ultimately battle for the big prize. Any new people looking to be part of an exciting and friendly sporting club are encouraged to get involved. For enquiries call Club President Rusty McGlade on (03) 5169 6507.
