Competition bowls is underway for season 2011/12. Our ladies Pennant side is struggling a little. We have had absentees each week for various reasons and have been unable to form a settled side. However a win against Morwell last week was a confidence booster. We thank the men who have been helping us out and Howard Hill for his tireless work as green keeper.
The ladies representing us at tournaments and invitation days are also doing a great job. With so few ladies, the schedule can become very busy.
Weather for Melbourne Cup Day was typical – intermittent light rain all day but it didn’t mar a very successful fun day. We served about 40 people a delicious smorgasbord lunch, ran 8 sweeps and 24 players participated in a drawn game of 2 bowl triples. The winning team was Bob Allen, Peter Gair and Jessie Van Hamond, who was one of our young visitors enjoying the day. Well done to these players. The lucky number winners were Natalie Roy, Tony Snell and Ron Fox.
Club games are in progress. Congratulations to Janice Whelan and Jenny Medew, winners of the ladies championship pairs. They will now represent Boolarra in the West Gippsland Division play off on the 12th December. Our best wishes to Janice and Jenny. Two bowl singles and championship singles are also under way.
On 24th November the ladies section held their annual medley tournament to raise funds for the club. We much appreciate the continued sponsorship of Bendigo Bank for this event.
Our best wishes for a happy Christmas and safe and wonderful New Year to all.
Opening Day for Boolarra Bowling Club was held on the 18th September and was attended by members and potential new members. Three rinks were played on the new green. There was a happy response from all who attended with everyone looking forward to a productive and winning year.
Trivia night at the Bowls Club was a great success and judging from the hilarity and friendly banter resounding around the club, the night was enjoyed by all. Thanks to all for coming along and displaying your genius and special thanks to Colby and Julie for making the night a success. Plans are afoot to make it a regular event.
Pennant season for the Saturday Section has begun; 4th division with two wins and 6th division yet to score a win. Competing clubs are complimenting the new green and Championship games are underway with some outstanding games being played.
Members of the community are welcome to come along and watch some first class bowling. Special thanks to our green keeper, who is an example of what can be achieved in one’s life. From Public Servant to Green Keeper, who would have thought HOWARD???
Social Bowls has begun so watch out for posters around the town. Sunday Music Under The Verandah is planned for the summer months. Tuesday and Thursday nights the club is opened and the club is also opened every second Friday night. So join us for a cold ale and sausage sizzle.
A warm welcome will be extended to all.
