Boolarra’s Biggest Morning Tea – 2011

Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea is held every year in May as a fundraiser for the Cancer Council. Funds raised from the Biggest Morning Tea helps the Cancer Council continue their work in cancer research, prevention, education and support services.

Sadly, every 20 minutes a Victorian hears the words “You have cancer”. By taking part in Morning Teas and donating either your time or funds, everyone can help support these people and their families. Support services including the Cancer Council Helpline and telephone support groups are often the only support available to many rural families.

In 2010, Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea raised over $10 million! This was a fantastic effort and the aim for 2011 is $11 million.

Boolarra’s Biggest Morning Tea was held at the Memorial Hall on 25th May 2011. This was the first for Boolarra and approximately 40 people turned up on a beautiful day.

We were all treated to a wonderful spread of cakes and slices. Herbal teas and black teas served in our beautiful dainty cups, donated by the members of the community all over Australia after the Black Saturday Bushfires.

It was a great social event and a total of $333.10 was raised. I would like to thank all the wonderful people that helped with the catering and cleaning up, the Hall Committee for donating the venue and everyone for coming along to make this event a success.
