Boolarra Netball Notes Start of Season 2011
Our “Meet and Greet” night was held on 2nd February to mark the official start to the training season, although some of the keener girls had already been training for a few weeks. We had about 60 girls turn up on a hot and humid evening to be put through an hour of circuit training by Heather, before we adjourned to the clubrooms for well deserved cold drinks and BBQ prepared by Rusty and helpers. Thanks to everyone who helped with the organising and running of the night. The girls were then introduced to the committee and coaches, who all did a great job of explaining responsibilities and requirements and sorting out the necessary paperwork.

It’s not too late though. If you know someone interested in having a go, especially A Grade or younger ones for Under 11 and 13, please contact us. We are planning an interesting and varied year, with training also available to those wanting to do umpiring and coaching.
Training will continue Tuesday and Thursday s. Tryouts were held on 15th and 17th Feb and Teams announced on 22nd and 24th. It’s great to see so many enthusiastic players and we are looking forward to seeing this team spirit in action by having a successful season, starting with the first game against Yarragon on April 2nd.
We are expecting to have the asphalt courts resurfaced early this year and are looking forward to fewer injuries on a more comfortable playing surface. Thank you to Latrobe City Council for assisting with this. We would also like to thank the Soroptimist International Club for their ongoing support of the club in the form of equipment and training resources.
As always we are indebted to all the locals who help us out with coaching, being on a committee, food preparation, catering, checking equipment, packing up, cleaning, transport, sponsorship and all those other jobs that keep us operating. Thank you, and there’s always room for more.
The club kitchen has been recently refurbished and will be serving meals on Thursday and Saturday nights from March. Other members of the community are also welcome to come along to support the club and try our menu.
Part of our focus is to promote a fun, healthy and inclusive environment for mainly younger members of our community and we welcome new ideas and anyone willing to help out in any way. Even if you aren’t a top sportsperson, joining the netball club is a great way to meet others in the community.
The senior netball teams also look set to go from strength to strength this year, retaining a majority of last year’s players and adding quite a few new ones. This, coupled with our dedicated coaches and a big pre-season should see the girls continue to improve dramatically throughout the 2011 season. Boolarra has the most friendly netball club around and any new players are encouraged to get involved.
Anyone interested in joining us, playing or non playing, is welcome to contact me, Nancy McAllister on 5169 6526, our Secretary Jackie McGlade on 5169 6507 or Coach Cherry Prior on 5169 6368/ 0427 696 368.
