Fotball Nnotes – March. 2011

With the 2011 season almost upon us the Boolarra Football Netball Club is yet again set to improve both on and off the field. Yet again we have a strong committee and both the senior football and netball teams have recruited well over the off season. The senior club is currently looking for volunteers to help out around the club and new people are more than welcome. For enquiries contact President Russell McGlade on 0428 696 507 or 5169 6507.

UNDER 10’s back in action

The Boolarra Football Netball Club has been successful in being accepted into the Traralgon and District Football League. This is the first time in some years we will field a junior team and we look forward to seeing our new crop of future senior footballers in action. We are currently looking for community support in volunteering for coaches, support staff and participating players. Boys (10 and under) and Girls (11 and under) are eligible to play. All playing jumpers and helmets will be provided and all registration fees will be covered by the senior club. Training will be one night per week. Anyone interested in helping out or know of any players are encouraged to call Shirley Carnes on 0427 072 406 or 5169 6781.

4ths and 3rds Football

Continuing on from last season our 4ths team looks strong with quite a few new players. The boys are back in action at training and are looking like a formidable unit. New coach Rob Hussey looks to have the game plan to take this team of budding young superstars to the finals.

We are still aiming at getting a 3rds team up and running for this season. We are very close at this stage to getting a team. Any players or anyone who knows of any players are encouraged to contact Junior Development Officer Alf Shiels on 0409 541 260 or 5169 6368.

Senior Football

Tony Giardina will coach the seniors again with Marcus Carnes returning as reserves coach. Numbers at pre-season training have been very strong so far and the club has recruited a few handy senior players to bolster our current list of young footballers. Recruit of the summer would have to be Boolarra favourite son Mathew Dyer, who has spent the last few years playing in the Geelong league. Superfit Mathew returns to the club as both a player and assistant senior coach and has had a tremendous effect on our young players so far this preseason having brought back with him an unsurpassed professionalism and desire to succeed. Our 3 other star recruits include ex Morwell players Courtney Sherrif and Daniel Metcalf who both look set to bolster our midfield and Mathew Buglisi from Cowarr who should play a big part in the backline. All the fans out there will also be excited to hear that Ken “The Ninja” Towt has signed up again and is a prime candidate to line up as our marquee full forward.

Meals

From Thursday 3rd of March meals at the club will be officially back on. Meals will be every Thursday night during the season from around 7:30pm onwards. Anyone looking for a good value, healthy and delicious meal and maybe a beer or two from the bar, feel free to drop in.
