Wool Group – Dec. 2010

Over the past few months our member numbers have increased, hence we are very pleased to welcome our new ladies – Lyn, Maryanne, Pam, Kay and Anna. We hope they enjoy many happy days with us in years to come.
Early in winter many of us were involved in knitting socks on a circular needle. Lori, our teacher, has been extremely patient with us. Each week we sat around with furrowed brows, totally absorbed in our new task; each of us taking a turn sitting beside Lori while she shows/teaches us the next step. Occasionally a soft expletive would be heard as someone realises a mistake has been made, so it was back to the ‘Learning Chair’ beside Lori while she helped us sort out our hic-cup. When a completed pair of socks appears for ‘show and tell’ there are congratulations all around.
Some of us have made a few trips up to Stokesay Mohair Farm at Boolarra South. Alison, the owner, has a huge range of ‘goodies’ for us to enjoy and we usually leave with arms laden with various yarns, patterns etc. Our stash has been constantly growing.
Our grant application from WGAF (Women Gathering After the Fires) was successful, which will be a great help in covering our rental costs and other expenses, this will enable us to keep our charge to members to a minimum.
Our new member Lyn bought a beautiful teddy bear ‘Fairyfloss’ along for ‘Show and Tell’. We were all so impressed with beautiful little ‘Flossy’ that Lyn offered to give us a workshop in bear making; so those keen to make a bear got busy with Lyn’s help. We’ve all had great fun and our bears have taken on a personality all of their own. They each have a name and on completion are issued with a birth certificate.
Our next challenge is making Christmas decorations and we hope to have some beautiful new creations to hang for the festive season.
Lori is very pleased to report that her new house is almost finished and she’s looking forward to the day when we can all go and visit.
If you would like to join us at Wool Group, we meet every Thursday from 11.30 am to 3.30 pm in the Multi-Purpose building and we always have a delicious shared lunch.
Our Christmas lunch will be held on Thursday, 9th December, we will then have a well earned break and will resume on Thursday, 20th January 2011.
