It’s terrific to see the reinvigoration of the Boolarra Link and I commend all associated with the production and distribution of this important communication medium. The Boolarra Link provides vital information to the local community and assists in enhancing social interaction and inclusiveness in Boolarra and District.
I have had the opportunity to visit Boolarra on a number of occasions over these past weeks. Some of the more memorable moments included the opening of the redeveloped Boolarra Fire Station. It is an impressive facility indeed and a tribute to the wonderful men and women of the Country Fire Authority. We are all acutely aware of their heroics in January and February of 2009 and it was just sensational to see so many community members attend this special event.
The facility itself is terrific in that it not only accommodates existing vehicles and equipment but showcases the history of the local CFA. The day itself was not just a tribute to current members but recognised those long serving members who gave so much in previous eras. A number of Boolarra CFA members received awards for their years of service, and I congratulate all for their commitment and dedication in protecting the safety and lives of others. It’s such a selfless act to become involved in volunteering and giving up personal time to serve our community.
We should also recognise those who contributed to the redevelopment because without their financial and moral support this would not have happened. So thank you to one and all! It really was just a sensational day and thoroughly enjoyed by all those in attendance. So to Captain Todd Birkbeck and your team well done and good luck!
On that same day I conducted an open invitation for residents of Boolarra and District to come and speak with me on any State Government topics at the Boolarra Top Shop. It was a great opportunity to hear the thoughts of the community, and the issues that are pertinent to the town and surrounding districts.
I was able to engage in a number of conversations with many Boolarra residents and listen to suggested improvements from a State Government perspective and to also learn of many positive happenings in our region. I’d like to thank everyone who came along for giving up their time to come and have a chat with me on their time off during the weekend, it was certainly appreciated. I’d also like to thank the girls at the Top Shop for their kind hospitality.
In the middle of November I attended the Boolarra Bowls Club and assisted with presentation duties following a fun day of competition with other clubs from around the region and beyond. It really is a unique setting and the rinks were in fine order despite inclement weather on the preceding days. The hospitality from Committee Members and volunteers was first class and a special well done for to the ladies for their catering during the course of the day. Hopefully I can return soon and have a bowl myself!
I also had the opportunity in November to attend the official opening of the Boolarra Cemetery toilet and shed. A huge well done to all associated in ensuring this important project has come to fruition. In particular the Boolarra Cemetery Trust should be commended for their dedication and commitment in bringing these two important assets to reality that will benefit the community of Boolarra and District.
