Boolarra Tennis Club News – Dec. 2010

The season has started with many wash outs which is very disappointing to our keen tennis players, Junior and Senior alike.
As a club we are very excited about the season ahead, lots of fun, laughs and tennis make for a great summer of activity and time with friends with similar interests. One thing as a Club we do ask our players is to enjoy the game and the social fun of being a member of our club, winning is ‘GREAT’, but if we lose one week but still enjoyed our tennis and had fun with our friends then that is ‘GREAT’ to!
Our Senior team this year has different players playing each and every week. We thank all of you for the commitment. We also thank our new club Secretary, Samantha Brick for her efforts with filling a senior team every week. We were worried we could not field a senior team this year in the Loy Yang Yinnar & District Association and it was Samantha’s drive and do not give up attitude that ensured we put in a team. It is now up to the rest of us to also have the same drive and keep senior tennis alive in our Club.
Boolarra Junior Player Matt Hammond took out the section 5 place in the LV Junior Tennis Tournament played at Traralgon recently. 60 Kids from all clubs within the LV participated, with 3 Boolarra players, Tiarne Bayley, Dana Flahavin and Matt Hammond competing in section 5. What a great result for a Boolarra player to win the tournament in section 5. We are very proud of his efforts and say ‘Well done Matt’
The club participated in fundraising at the Red Light Ride earlier this year and has been successful in obtaining some sponsorship for tennis coaching as a thank-you for our efforts and participation. All people in the community will be welcome to participate in the tennis coaching but we would really love to see each and every one of our juniors take advantage of this great FREE offer based on the efforts of our Club Volunteer’s work. Honorary members of the club Marg and Stan Niddrie drove this effort and the club is forever grateful for their commitment.
In 2011 as a Club we have again committed to the Boolarra Folk Festival as our major fundraiser. Members and families please keep this in mind and be prepared to offer some time to fairy flossing or snow coneing …
